1. The Gurkha Royal Courtesan Cigar

This cigar is truly “fit for a king” and priced for royal riches as well. The Gurkha Royal Courtesan bears a price tag of 1.36 million dollars. This truly is one of the most expensive cigars in the world. Hand-crafted in Honduras and the Dominican Republic this cigar is meticulously filled with rare Himalayan tobacco that’s been cultivated using Fiji water. This coveted cigar is infused with Remy Martin Black Pearl Louis XIII cognac which retails for around A$468.99. Adding to the prestige of such a pricey smoke, the finished product is wrapped in a gold leaf and secured with a band containing five carats of sparkling diamonds.

The artisans who create the Gurkha Royal Courtesan must remain blindfolded during the process to ensure the craft is their sole focus. These creme-de-la-creme smokes are only permitted to be hand-rolled by a very few and to be selected to hand roll one of these beauties is considered a great honor and privilege.

2. The Mayan Sicar

This cigar is somewhat misleading on this list. It’s really a (very) vintage cigar that’s more of a collectors item. In 2012 a team of archaeologists unearthed 800 well-preserved cigars from a cave on the Guatemalan coast. These cigars, or sicars (the mayan word for cigars) were found to be over 600 years old.

The Mayans actually originated what we know today as the cigar. In fact, they began producing these smokes in the 12th century and were considered excellent tobacconists. Christopher Columbus brought cigars back from the Mayans after falling under the spell of a darn good smoke.

The amazing discovery of the well-preserved and still-smokable cigars led to an auction where one of these venerable relics fetched a whopping A$792,366.99.

3. Gran Habano No. 5 El Gigante

Again, this cigar is not really meant to be smoked. Unless you have a very big mouth! The Gran Habano El Gigante is truly gigantic in that it bears a ring gauge of 1,920! Intentionally made to be displayed at trade shows and the like, this cigar measures 19 feet in length and is three feet wide. This one very large cigar weighs the same as 25,000 regular-sized cigars.

Although the rather epic cigar was never meant to be sold, one cigar enthusiast and private collector did purchase the El Gigante for A$289,127.99 (A$23,442.99 below the recommended price) in January of 2013.

The company makes less than 100 boxes of His Majesty’s Reserve each year and they go pretty fast. The Dominican binder and filler are aged 12 years and the Connecticut Maduro wrapper is aged 15 years. The cigar is 7.5 inches long with a ring gauge of 52. One of these royal-worthy cigars is about A$2,813.99.

7. Gurkha Black Dragon

The Black Dragon was released in 2006 in a very limited number and as such is considered quite rare. The complex flavor of the Black Dragon goes from sour to sweet. It’s made from Dominican filler that’s aged five years then a Cameroon binder and dark and toothsome wrapper that’s pure Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro. Each of these cigars is packed individually in a frosted tube which is then placed in a leather box, lined with orange velvet. All of that is then placed inside a case made from camel bone. Exotic, unusual and rare-such a deal for just under A$1,875.99.

8. Arturo Fuente Opus X Ltd

The Arturo Fuentes Opus X is considered a world-class acquisition among those who truly appreciate a luxury cigar. The year 2003 saw the 10th anniversary of the Opus X and as seems to be a theme the company created a limited edition line of the commemorative cigars, each lavishly-crafted box of 100 Opus X Ltd is a humidor.

The name Arturo Fuente is renowned in the world of cigar artisan, crafters and tobacconists. Dominican filler and binder is wrapped in a Rosado wrapper grown on the Chateau de la Fuente plantation. With a deliciously complex flavor of, among other things, mild jalapeño peppers, this cigar enchants many an aficionados palate. 9. Cohiba Behike

One of the most expensive cigars in the world comes from one of Cuba’s most popular brands. The Cohiba Behike. In 2006 Cohiba released a mere 100 boxes, each with 40 cigars, to commemorate their 40th anniversary. Of course the special limited edition stogies sold out immediately.

The 52 ring gauge, 7.5 inch cigars were created at Cuba’s El Laguna Cohiba factory. The name Behike commemorates a great Taíno chieftain for the rich and wonderful contributions to the craft. The blend of tobaccos from the Vuelta and Pixar del Rio regions of Cuba offer the lucky smoker a luxury experience. Only one person rolled these cigars, the famed roller Norma Fernandez Sastre. 10. Fuente Don Arturo AnniverXario

In celebration of their 100th anniversary in 2001, the highly regarded Arturo Fuente company created a limited edition of their special cigars. Half of the cigars (46) in each box were wrapped naturally and the other 46 were wrapped in Maduro wrappers which come from the Chateau de la Fuente where the company began their business.

In 2008 the Fuentes Don Arturo AnniverXario cigars were made available once again, in limited edition. These cigars are a true find for any cigar lover and can be purchased for under A$156.99 per stogie.
